Try:

/makemkvcon f -d /IOBDServices/7F8EEA63 -i /Users/andreas/Desktop/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BN11-0M00300-211711201351.bin rawflash main -f /tmp/makemkv/sdf_0000007b.bin
Awesome fast answer. Thanks! It worked!

Hi guys,

first of all happy new year!

I have the same drive BP55EB40 which I attempted to update to v 1.03 from 1.01 via the LG windows self updater. At about 48% the process went in error saying that the drive was going to be put into BOOT mode (which is basically the recovery mode). Since that moment I have not been able to use the drive anymore. Despite it gets recognized in Windows/MacOs it is not opening. Before sending it for assistance I wanted to give a try with some "hard" FW update. The asus Odd update did not work (error #5), the LG unlocked updated stuck at 0% so my last attempt was the MakeMKV command line in MacOs. I tried to follow the steps described by all the users but I still get errors

MacBook-Air-di-Michele:MacOS mike$ ./makemkvcon f -d /IODVDServices/2A123AC3 -i /Users/Mike/Downloads/firmware.bin rawflash main -f /Users/Mike/Downloads/sdf.bin
No drive tool logic found in SDF.bin
Internal error 0x8d000000

Can you please help me? Is this Boot mode preventing me from updating the FW?

Many thanks!

Hey folks, wondering how to acces the MakeMKV command line tool for macOS? I'm looking to flash my drive (LG WH14NS40 in an OWC enclosure running 1.03) and have MakeMKV installed, but installing the app doesn't seem to also automatically install the makemkvcon command line tool for flashing drives.

I found a post where Mike seems to suggest you have to PM him to get the scoop, so I sent an email thru the Contact Us link at the bottom of the forum. While I'm waiting to hear back, would very much appreciate it if folks could share with me what they know.

Thanks!

I am trying to flash my new HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP55EB40_1.03_212107081606_ drive on Linux, but I always get this error:
DEBUG: Code 4280012805 at Mx=Q{%DdK23UWRSK}6/xi^l-6'?wWl*&:121264648
Command produced error code 0x8f1bd005

I guess the firmware on the drive is more recent than the one I would like to flash it with, and the downgrade options on the drive avoid to do this.

BTW: I am using this command line in terminal: makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr1 -f /home/ubuntu/Desktop/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /home/ubuntu/Desktop/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP55EB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070924.bin

I managed to flash my internal drive (/dev/sr0) without any problems, it is now identified as BD-RE WH16NS60.

Is there any other way I could flash this new drive?
(I forgot to mention: The SVC Code is EB52)

Thanks in advance!

Newer (2020/21) FWs are encrypted. Try:

makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr1 -f /home/ubuntu/Desktop/sdf.bin rawflash enc main -i /home/ubuntu/Desktop/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP55EB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070924.bin

Thanks for your help,
I wasn't sure if I already tried that, so I did it once more, with the same result:
DEBUG: Code 4280012805 at Mx=Q{%DdK23UWRSK}6/xi^l-6'?wWl*&:121264648
Command produced error code 0x8f1bd005

As the current FW date is 212107081606 and the date from the bin file I am trying to flash is 212005070924, I can only guess that the newer Firmware does restrict downgrading...

Any other ideas?

HI, I bought the same drive with a manufacture date (written in the label of Sept 2021), tried all the guides from the forum for LG drives but suspect this drive has just not been figured out yet (SVC EB52). I returned mine and bought one from:

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=19387

Received the BU40N version in a cool case with next day delivery and it is finally ripping LOTR UHD in time for Christmas viewing!

The discs even are even readable natively in windows which I didn't expect.

I just flashed mine (same info.. attached dump just for the records) with the normal BP50NB40 SDFtool procedure, and that did the trick.
I could watch UHD HDR The Martian straight from MPC-HC, without a hitch.
If you had problems, it's probably that the mac experience/tools suck.
