Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB BN12 revision, MK ready?

Hi everyone,
After long deliberations and looking at various options I've decided to order the Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2VB - the choices were somewhat limited where I live and the prices exorbitant, so I chose the best I could, and I found a bit of a surprise in the box.
The drive arrived with BN12 revision firmware not the expected BN11.
I was all ready and set to flash it with the MK version from here:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19422 and now this bummer...
Can someone tell me if this will result in a softbrick or am I good to go?
Do we even know what changes have been introduced?
Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/rdisk7
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: BUFFALO
Product: Optical Drive
Revision: BN12
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2119-05-14 14:15
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 23
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Thank you all for the amazing efforts here, it took me a long time to sift through (some) the knowledge and I'm still not entirely clear on everything.

So you are going to flash it with BU40N_1.03-MK?
You should still be able to. Just give it a go. It will either flash successfully or you will get an error before starting the flash.

Reviving this thread as I recently bought this drive. I used this firmware and it flashed just fine. Makemkv showed patched and all good.
However makemkv would report no disc after scanning the disc for well over a minute.
Multiple computers tested all the same result.
Out of desperation I tried the stock LG BU40N 1.0 DE firmware as I read it’s a rebadged BU40N.
After I flashed it. It worked perfectly. Multiple 4K discs ripped.
Anyone else having this issue or is it just me? If I can help as I have a stock drive still or in any way with logs etc.
Thanks.

If bought now and is new stock, what is the FW version in it. Is it still BN12? I'm planning to buy EU version. Precise model is BRXL-PT6U2VB-EU. Is it ready for 4K backupping if I flash it with MK BU40N-BN12 fw (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BN12-0M01001-211905141415.bin) ? What if it comes with BN13 firmware? Thanks.

I haven't bought it yet. Would LG BU40N and external USB3 enclosure be better option than this Buffalo drive? I believe they are same unit, Buffalo is just rebadged. I think LG BU40N is also official UHD BD drive so it would work with Powerdvd Ultra.

he says its not a BU40N and he has one that he couldn't flash
https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... +eu#p94510
i wont even get into the power dvd ultra thing but it wont work even with the right version of that buffalo drive trust me i would know i sell alot of them
but power dvd ultra is a joke and a scam for UHD playback half the time it does not even work with all the correct hardware

So, it sounds like I should avoid Buffalo drive and go with real LG BU40N slim?
Yeah, I'm aware of absurd requirements concerning official UHD BD playback in PC realm. Not really something I would venture myself. I trust my Oppo 203 and Chinoppo players.
