I recently replaced my Pioneer BDR-XD05B with the drive below, in order to start uploading my 4K discs, to my PLEX server. I started poking around the forum on which drive to get and landed on the drive below, thinking it was LibreDrive ready. However, it appears out of the box, it is not. So my question is should I return the drive for one that is LibreDrive ready currently, or wait until firmware is available for this LG Drive?
Thank you for a great piece of Software MKV!
-Rob

				Thanks for the prompt response.
Downloaded the ASUS ODD FW CHANGER (Modified) Flash Tool, dropped the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WP50NB40-NB50-1.01-NM00200-211711231646.bin into the directory. Started the flash tool, chose the correct drive, drive popped open as expected. I hit start and got an "Updating Failure #3" error....
I'm wondering if this occurs because its an external drive and the tool can only mechanically open the drive, but not close it.....
I apologize for my ignorance if I've done something incorrectly. Its only been about 20 years since I've flashed anything....

Has anyone found a work around for this condition?
Thanks again.

Some adapters/enclosures fail in this regard. Any chance of temporarily connecting to an internal SATA port?
Or one of the 'professionals' might be able to recommend some adapter/enclosure options that are better behaved?

Usb enclosures/sata adapters that work with optical drives and flashing:
OWC Mercury Pro 5.25 case
Unitek Y-1034 usb to sata cable-Marty
Tell me your adapter and if it can read disks I will add it to the not flashing friendly list

				This applies to WP50NB40, BP50NB40 and BP60NB10:
-these drives do not have a SATA port to connect to, only USB
-there are no publicly available flashers that work over USB
-hopefully those in the possession of usb flashers will stop just talking about them and start sharing them

So, despite an available FW, there's no generally available means to apply it? Go figure...
@smirob , I apologize for the bad intel.

Thanks again fella's for the assistance.
So, Billycar11 or others, if I were to purchase one of the enclosures you recommend, what UHD drive would you or others recommend to put in it, taking into account that I'm capped at only USB 2.0 availability? Again, my goal here is 2 fold; 1) move all my UHD 4K Media to my Plex server, 2) take advantage of "Libre Mode". I'm certainly up for any suggestions.....
As an aside, the reason I'm using external an drive, is because my PC is an Inspiron All-In-One. I've had it many years, but have upgraded the processor to the highest the socket will allow (3GHz), put a Matshita Blu Ray player in it, as well as 16GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD Hard drive. It's not a rocket but serves it purpose quite well. I do have limitations though, such as no USB 3 port, and SATA is only available thru a USB 2 port with an adapter.
Finally, the drive mentioned above is not in an aftermarket enclosure, it is a slim body, plug and play drive from LG.

I personally love both my ASUS BW-16DHT friendly drive and my LG WH16NS60 official drive. Both of them are very capable drives and are able to be cross flashed if needed. See this new awesome thread for more info, however.
