LibreDdrive, Ubuntu, LG WP50NB40
Greetings good people of the forum!
Stumbled here - like many I assume - via the datahoarders sub.
I've been using an LG WP50NB40 for the past couple of years to create BD-R M-discs for archival purposes (creating them using K3B on Ubuntu Linux).
Everything was going fine until the burner decided it was done creating Blu Rays!
I'm intrigued by what I might be able to achieve by flashing LibreDrive onto the hardware and as it's soon to be almost totally useless to me (I have a new BR burner on the way), I don't mind taking the risk of bricking the thing.
My only question is whether anybody happens to have undertaken flashing this onto this particular product before? The only firmware listed for the product on the LG site is for a different UPC code. But again ... I'm not too adverse to taking the risk that this thing will become an expensive doorstopped.
Any tips or pointers appreciated. I'm a longterm Ubuntu user but a noob at mucking around with optical drivers - at least beyond what you see with K3B

Bought a WP50NB40 and did the sdftool and followed the instructions but still the drive won't read a 4k uhd. I've tried multiple USB ports and discs. Any ideas?

you haven't followed the instructions. You have done the first flash. Now you need to do the cross-flash.audireddevil wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 2:30 amBought a WP50NB40 and did the sdftool and followed the instructions but still the drive won't read a 4k uhd. Re: LibreDdrive, Ubuntu, LG WP50NB40
I'm sorry, I thought I did. I did the DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin and then did the DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK.bin firmware update and after that didn't do anything then tried the DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin and nothing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point. Bluray rip just fine but I can't get the drive to read UHD. Thanks.

Yeah, the guide looked pretty straight forward and I thought I was doing the right stuff. I did email you directly about doing a remote flash, too.
