HL-DT-ST BD-REbp60nb10 drive having issues with reading blu ray and UHD disks

Post by hlhbk » Fri Oct 06, 2023 2:50 am

A few months ago the 5.25 internal drive I had appeared to stop spinning and reading discs. After coming here and researching since I was going through neck issues at the time so I couldn't install a 5.25 drive I went with the HL-DT-ST BD-RE bp60nb10 LG external drive. At first things were really rough going with the drive saying that it wasn't present. I found that I needed to turn off the usb suspend option which I did and for a few months after that everything went really well ripping wise.

Recently way more discs I put in and get read by makemkv I am getting the drive isn't ready, and it keeps trying until the disc disappears in the OS. If I try to access the disc in power dvd I can access it no problem. I can't afford to go back to a 5.25 drive at this time. Any idea what is causing this? I have included my log. I downgraded to an older version of makemkv as well as I recently upgraded but that didn't help as well.

It almost seems like the drive isn't getting enough power. Is it connected with a USB Y cable? You could try unplugging the drive for several seconds, then plug both USB plugs into high power ports. Unplugging the drive will let the tiny computer inside the drive that runs the drive's firmware reboot.
