LG WH14NS40 sdf tool throwing error while flashing

Post by darkKaplah » Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:22 am

So long time makeMKV user and I paid for a key (hey you guys make awesome software!). Just noticed my drive is a LG WH14NS40 and it shows libre support. So I tried to flash the software for my model. I'm getting the following error that's attached in the screenshot. It doesn't matter if I have the "enc" checked or unchecked, or if I run as administrator.

This machine is a windows 11 box.

Love to know what the issue is. The drive still works so this isn't a hair on fire scenario. I do get the occasional UHD so I'd love to be able to rip those, but again not dire.

(Edit) Aparently the attachment didn't go through. Here's a link to the photo:

There is no image attached. Try uploading the image somewhere and providing a link or tell us the error. Also, show us your MakeMKV info (right hand pane). Hopefully we can help you out...
Cheers :D

Your drive has v1.05 which is an encrypted firmware. Therefore you cannot directly flash to WH14NS40 1.02 firmware. You should flash to WH16NS60 1.02-MK firmware first, then you can flash to the other firmware if you want, although I suggest you flash to WH16NS60 1.02-MK and leave it as that is the recommended firmware and works well with MakeMKV.

I also suggest using the latest version of SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.5 I think?).
Cheers :D

That was the solution! Thank you sir. I've updated my drive to the WH16 as you suggested and I'm showing libre enabled. Now to screw around with this a little.

I'll need to do the same to my other drive in my truenas/arm box. Worse case scenario I'll need to just swap drives, but is there a linux flasher for the firmware?

No but you can use the command line.
