Thoughts on Archgon MD-8107-U3 drive

I've just bought my first external DVD/BR drive, in order to rip some DVDs & BR for setting up Plex.
I can still return it and replace it with a better one if anyone has recommendations for a better drive.

Does anyone here have any comments on this Archgon drive? Is it reliable?
There are comments in the output window when MakeMKV is running about "patched firmware"

Should I update the FW? Where would I find the release notes & update instructions for macOS?

I'm running MakeMKV on an M1 Mac mini on Big Sur(ly)- exclusively.
