BD-RE BU50N firmware flash

#1 Post by glorifieduk » Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:23 pm

Hi everyone,

I have an external 4k BD drive that I'd like to get "Libre-drived" but I want to make sure I'm doing this right before I brick it! Here are the drive details:

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU50N
Revision: GE03
Serial number: ***********
Firmware date: 2118-01-22 14:36
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 61

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

I have downloaded the SDF Flash Tool v1.3.5
I have downloaded mk-firmware-pack-20200720 and can see the MK file for the BU50N in there
I have the originally generated tar file as that seems to have been useful on other posts: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

From what I've read, I should now select my drive, choose WRITE, select the MK FW File and go for it?

Thanks!

I have the same drive, took the same steps and everything looked good. However all my attempts to make an mkv have failed so far. I suspect the drive itself is faulty so I would like to recover the original firmware so I can return the device. Unfortunately although I did use the read option first that seems to only have the user data and I can't find the original firmware to download anywhere. Any help appreciated!

Running as admin got me past decrypting but still too many errors to get anywhere... pretty sure it's just a faulty drive at this point (having tried a lot of dvds, blu rays and uhd discs)

How does the mistake you receive express itself? Is an error message from MakeMKV available?

Very strange... I tried a different USB port on the same hub and it worked absolutely fine!
