BH16NS40 - LibreDrive enabled without Firmware patch?

#1 Post by stefan_o » Sat Dec 05, 2020 11:05 pm

Hi,
I use a BH16NS40 (MT1939) and MakeMKV always reported for LibreDrive is possible, but not enabled (or something similar). What I read in this forum is, that MT1939 drives will most likely never be LibreDrive compatible, because nobody will port the functionality to drives that are for sale anymore.
I just updated to the latest MakeMKV and was very surprised to see this:

Code: Select all

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1939
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Partial
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Is that a bug in MakeMKV (1.15.3 on Linux) or does this mean LibreDrive is really enabled without any firmware modification? Are UHD Blu-rays possible as well (ImgBurn reports the device supporting BD-XL). I cannot test because in lack of a playback device I never bought one.
