BD Drive won't rip DVD or Blu-rays all of a sudden

#1 Post by huskermark2020 » Sat Jun 20, 2020 2:02 am

Make MKV was working flawlessly until today when all of a sudden it won't rip Blu-rays or DVD's. It knows there's a drive there, but won't go much further than the beginning. See screenshots for where it stops.

Please try to disconnect and reconnect the drive, could be a glitch caused by LibreDrive update. If nothing changes, please post (or send) the log file.

Got the same issue here today. Hangs on the RO.inf both on Bluray and UHD discs and computer does not shut down any more properly.
Do you mean to disconnect the harware drive physically or by control panel?
I even do not see a log file even that it should be enabled...

Thanks, DVBCable

Ok, sorry, have to be more clear.
The possible cause is that LibreDrive update crashed your drive CPU. This is a volatile thing, the update does not change the firmware, only code in RAM. If this is the case, you have to power off and power on your drive.

For USB drives it means unplugging the drive, powering it off (if externally powered), waiting five seconds, then powering it on.

For internal drives it means doing the same with whole computer - shut down, wait 5 sec, power on. Mere reboot is not sufficient.

If you are affected:
Please do post your drive model, log file (if you have it), and whether the "power off-power on" did change anything.

My ASUS_BW-16D1HT sits at the decrypting stage. Only just started today.
Noticed that I now have unrestricted speed with a yes against it now, whereas a few days ago it did not.
Backup failed in the log will be where I stopped the program.

I disconnected the Drive, fully shutdown with power supply disconnected for at least 10 min, and still having the same issues.

Just to add "power off-power on" didn't change anything.

Hi Mike,
I have the same issue today (first time ive run MakeMKV in a few days), the first thing it did was download the latest sdf file.

I then noticed the same behaviour as when I tested out the v6 libredrive bin file earlier in the month. The drive spins up but as soon as it tries to read the disc it results in alot of warnings and eventually a fatal internal error? (my original post about this is here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22221&start=90#p91634), log file is attached to that post).

The drive then is missing from the OS (linux mint) and comes back ONLY after a shut down (not a reboot). Ive removed the tarball, then the latest sdf is downloaded again :D , so I disabled "Allow contacting webserver for updates" in preferences and deleting the tarball again.........now its back to normal and working fine..........though I understand that certain discs may not work due to no contact with the webserver?

My Drive is:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BDDVDRW UH12NS30
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: K9MEA8F2118
Firmware date: 2114-04-24 19:00
Bus encryption flags: 16
Highest AACS version: 63

The disc Im trying works fine as it stands. I haven't tried any DVDs with the up to date SDF to see if just BDs are a problem etc...

Cheers,

Just downloaded an older bin file and turned of updating, this has set my read speed back to not enabled yet.
And it is now ripping a disk again.

I started having this issue today when trying to rip a new Blu-ray that arrived. My Windows Server required a hard shut down after my Remote Desktop connection stopped responding. I tried a few more tries, and MakeMkV just wont open my new Bluray, or the old bluray discs I own.

I thought my drive might be dead. But, after seeing this thread... I have no idea what this is.

I have a LG WH14NS40 (Internal SATA)

I have this same problem.

If I power down, wait 10 seconds, power PC back on, Windows recognizes my Blu-ray drive again. But if I try to open a disc with MakeMKV, problem returns.

Wanted to report that I too am seeing the same issues as OP that started very recently. I used it a few days ago without issue, then when attempting to use it today ran into it. While ripping BD's (same error message and everything).

I am also having the issue with DVD's during the decrypt step, however with a different error message. I've attached a screenshot with the error message as well as the model of drive etc. It's an external drive so I have tried cycling the drive itself for 5 seconds; I have also tried a reboot of the machine just to be sure. The issue persists after both. I am running Windows 10 Pro version 1909, any assistance would be appreciated!

Hi, Same issues here.
Auto updated the sdf and now every time it try's to read a DVD or Blu-ray the computers freezes for 5 min then multiple errors on makemkv with drive not available.
A restart/shutdown will make the drive available again.
