Drive problem or Firmware problem

Post by Ready?_ »

I recently got a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-X13U since I found one in stock at Adorama and with the announcement that eventually it could be flashed to have LibreDrive firmware. I have been trying to rip an non-UHD bluray and keep getting the following errors when I try to rip it. I also tried ripping a different bluray and recieved basically the same errors in the log, though it seemed to run for longer before erroring out.

Code: Select all

Do I need libredrive firmware to be able to do any ripping, or is it just needed to rip UHD drives? Here is the drive info screen:

Well for standard blu-ray, your problem is not drive nor firmware related. It seems the drive keeps losing connection and disappears from the computer. How is the drive connected to the PC?

Libredrive is required for UHD discs only. It is also handy for standard BD but not a requirement. It is handy as when libredrive is enabled, it will ignore any drive certificate revocation thus still allowing the drive to continue to rip discs.

So, one day in the future, your drive may be supported or be flashable to enable libredrive.
Cheers :D

I am using the included USB3 type B cable and it is plugged directly into a USB3 port on my motherboard. I am using the included power adapter for power.

OK I am trying out a USB2 type B cable plugged into a different port and was able to rip a DVD that wasn't working for me before, trying out the bluray that was giving me grief before now. I have a USB C to B cable on the way now as well that I will try out. It may have been the cable.

Additional update: trying to rip the bluray while using the USB2 cable in a different port gave me M2TS hash check errors, and when I tried again, MakeMKV encountered a fatal error and crashed. I was able to use handbrake to directly re-encode the video off the disk after I set MakeMKV to be globally integrated, then after that succeeded twice I tried again in MakeMKV and.... it worked this time? So I'm pretty confused on what was going on with the errors. Hopefully the USB B to C cable I have on the way will work fine but it seems like stuff is working. Thanks for the help.

if you get hash errors on a pioneer something else is wrong

:(
I tried to rip it again to see if I get the error again, but it went fine with no errors, usually it was erroring out within a minute. I tried to see if I grabbed the error log from the time it gave the hash errors earlier today but I think I may have just copied a single line, I believe what I have below is the error that had shown, it repeated a ton of times.

Code: Select all

The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00002.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 775704576, attempting to work around
Is there a good method to test a drive for problems besides just trying to rip stuff? Like how you can use prime95 to test a RAM or CPU overclock to see if it has any errors?

Usually those messages mean you need to clean the disc before trying to rip it again.
