Hello All,
I have 2 WH16NS40 drives that were manufactured in 2013 and 2014. Both are on Rom Ver 1.00 according to the sticker and makemkv. I know that the guide says that drives must be manufactured after 2015 but I didn't know if thats all drives or just some of them? The drives work perfectly for regular BD but I was hoping to start ripping UHD BD and my computer doesn't even read the disk. I have not done anything to the firmware yet because I want to make sure it would actually work before I brick the drive.
Below is a copy of the info inside of makemkv, thank you for all your help/guidance!

Yep, it is simply too old and the wrong chip. For a list of new drives, see the Ultimate UHD Guide: viewtopic.php?p=74718#p74718neverforgetitsu wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 11:46 pmSo this drive is useless for UHD? Any recommendations on a replacement I can still buy new?
Thanks!
Cheers

Thank you for the information. Since that post is a bit old I wasn't certain if the information was still current or if some of the drives updated to the point that they couldn't be unlocked.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 1:01 amYep, it is simply too old and the wrong chip. Just to make sure, if I order a new WH16NS60 it should work right? Is there isn't any other specialty hardware required to flash it correct?
Thank you so much for the help!

Which ever drive you get, just use the SDFtool Flasher to flash it with UHD rip capable firmware. The guide also advises the recommended firmware for each drive.neverforgetitsu wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 1:08 amThank you for the information.
