How to flash a BU40N_1.01?

Post by pmhCH »

Hi all

Help me before I will brick my drive:

My drive is following:
Pierre-Maries-MacBook-Pro:MacOS pmheller$ ./makemkvcon f --list
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /IOBDServices/11B1380F
HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.01_211910161032_MO5KCTF2216

I have the HT-DT-ST folder in "Downloads"

So which syntax/file is correct being in the folder I am now? I read about downgrading from 1.01 to 1.00 then I read about 1.04 to be the one to go...

What is correct? ;)

PS: I am now in: /Applications/MakeMKV.app/Contents/MacOS
Samsung 78" (still with 3D), ATV 4k (64Gb) running Infuse, Hue Sync + Sonos "5.1"

This is a reasonable example for flashing a drive on a Mac: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23129

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2021 (https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634) suggests putting BU40N drives on 1.03MK. Others on this forum know a lot more than me about drive firmware, however.

So the idea is to go from 1.01 up to 1.04 and not downgrade to 1.00?

The Drives Guide, linked above, is kept up to date by the folks who know the most about drive firmware. That guide says:
BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK
It doesn't say anything about 1.00 or 1.04. The guide is detailed and informative.

There's no 1.03-file anymore in the newest pack, only 1.04 - tried it now and it worked ;)

Thanks to all for your help!

The best firmware for the BU40N is DE_LG_BU40N_1.00. This firmware is compatible with the most software.
Cheers :D

So could I flash the DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 over the 1.04? Or are there some risks? I only use the drive for makeMKV so perhaps it is not necessary?
