I have a stock LG UH12NS40 drive running f/w 1.00. It works fine in MakeMkv, but I think upgrading it with LibreDrive support would breath new life into it. This is the drive info;
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BDDVDRW UH12NS40
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: SIK93G41F014
Firmware date: 2116-02-23 10:42
I need to know what's the best/safest way of upgrading the firmware. I downloaded the link in this thread https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... s40#p76524, but when I try to flash the drive to 1.00-A4, I get this message;
Checksum is mismatched. Drive will go to BOOT mode. Please try again.
The drive still works, so nothing has changed. I don't mind cross-flashing, but advice on the best firmware and/or way to achieve this would be great.
Thanks

Hi You may need to check first if your LG UH12NS40 BD Drive is "UHD Friendly" from this Ultimate Guide authored by BillyCar11 https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634ghostrider wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:24 amI have a stock LG UH12NS40 drive running f/w 1.00. Re: Upgrading UHD drive to LibreDrive
The OP just wants to add LibreDrive if possible. As @Coopervid mentioned, there is a UH12NS40_1.01_MK firmware available in the MK firmware pack. You could try this firmware with either of the windows flashers.BlueMac77 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:21 pmHi You may need to check first if your LG UH12NS40 BD Drive is "UHD Friendly" from this Ultimate Guide authored by BillyCar11 https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634ghostrider wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:24 amI have a stock LG UH12NS40 drive running f/w 1.00. Re: Upgrading UHD drive to LibreDrive
Thanks MartyMcNuts for the clarification and heads up. Sorry for the confusion. Good to know the possibility that LibreDrive can be enabled on certain models.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 3:21 am

Re: Upgrading UHD drive to LibreDrive
Thanks. So, whilst mine doesn't appear on that list, I believe others have used this drive successfully. MakeMkv reports the drive as LibreDrive capable, but not enabled. By 'UHD friendly' do you mean can it read UHD discs? Yes it can, I've backed up a couple of UHD discs using it.BlueMac77 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:21 pmHi You may need to check first if your LG UH12NS40 BD Drive is "UHD Friendly" from this Ultimate Guide authored by BillyCar11 https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634ghostrider wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:24 amI have a stock LG UH12NS40 drive running f/w 1.00. @ghostrider,
If you download the MK firmware zip-file in my post you will find the 1.01 firmware for your drive.

Re: Upgrading UHD drive to LibreDrive
Thanks for the feedback. I've downloaded the MK pack, and this did have 1.01 of the firmware for my UH12NS40. I've used the standard flash tool, and this time it worked and flashed without an error. After a reboot MakeMkv is now reporting the new firmware and that the drive is Libredrive ready. Just doing a test backup now, but all looking good. Blu-Ray and UHD's read ok using LibreDrive fw. Happy days!MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 3:21 amThe OP just wants to add LibreDrive if possible.
