My Drive Sometimes Becomes Unusable

Post by ezzieyguywuf »

I've had success using the makemkvcon command-line utility to rip single tracks at a time. when I try to rip an entire disc at once though, I'll inevitably get a kernel-level error and the drive becomes unusable until I power cycle my computer. Here is the info from makemkv:

I don't have access to the PC with the optical drive right at this moment so I can't paste in the system log errors I mentioned, but I do recall noticing (while browsing the logs) that it would frequently do a "hard reset" of the device while ripping, and eventually it was unable to do this reset and then /dev/sr0 was no longer available until a power cycle.

what can I do to further triage this issue? is there a way to enable additional logs from makemkv?

Is the drive in an enclosure? Is it getting plenty of power?
