Pioneer Pioneer BDR-RW S13EBK does not play Bluray's and UHD's
Hello!
I have bought a Pioneer BDR-RW S13EBK, which is displayed in Makemkv as BD-RE Pioneer BD-RW BDR-S13U 1.04 CGDL001019WL.
Unfortunately I can't rip Blurays or UHD's with it.
Is there already a new firmware for this?
I would like to back up my data carriers to an external hard disk.
I had already made a request for this ( viewtopic.php?style=11&t=34333 ) but without success.
Since a lot of time has already passed and Makemkv has to keep up with the times ( so that it is also bought ), I would like to know if this drive is already supported.
With kind regards R.Lehmeier

Even without a MakeMKV screen: Firmware 1.04 is from September 2023. No downgrade possible.

Any firmware dated after 11/2022 is not UHD compatible and not downgradable.Lehmeier wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 9:41 amHello!

So that means that the development of Makemkv will not continue, or that it has been discontinued.Any firmware dated after 11/2022 is not UHD compatible and not downgradable.
It is a pity that you have given up - I had hoped that you would still find a way.
Do you know of any other software that can make backups?
Re: Pioneer Pioneer BDR-RW S13EBK does not play Bluray's and UHD's
The development of MakeMKV is most certainly ongoing. The problem with Pioneer drives (post late 2022), however, was a deliberate move by Pioneer which, to date, has not been overcome. All the drives mentioned here (1st post) remain fully functional w/ MakeMKV, as well as Pioneer drives from local vendors (while supplies last).Lehmeier wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 8:34 pmSo that means that the development of Makemkv will not continue, or that it has been discontinued.Any firmware dated after 11/2022 is not UHD compatible and not downgradable.

There is almost no hope anymore for the post Dec. 2022 drives that they can be flashed. Sorry, but I think these hopes will never come true taking into account that the supply of drives is getting critical. All sellers report problems to get new stock.d00zah wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 9:01 pmThe development of MakeMKV is most certainly ongoing. How should it continue if you can't flash the drives and no suitable drives are produced anymore? You can't expect anyone to buy an old drive at exorbitant prices - regardless of the firmware.d00zah wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 9:01 pm

I had previously made a request in your forum and I was recommended some and given the impression that there was nothing reasonable except Pioneer. Which I believed as I had had good experiences with Pioneer in the past - not only with CD / DVD drives.
I didn't find a list of suitable drives either, just a drive name here and there and the drive offered by someone from the USA should not only cost about 200€ (which would have been OK) but also almost 100€ shipping (an outrage).
I hope it continues, but at the moment I don't see any future for you if you don't manage to communicate this better.
Because the drives that Makemkv works with are becoming increasingly rare and so are your potential customers.
For example, a tabular list of manufacturers and the latest working firmware would not be bad.
And a clear statement of what works and what doesn't.
After all, Makemkv is not cheap and then it should also work with the drive that is installed.

You surely have a completely wrong perspective and you are blaming the wrong target. Tell us your country of residence and I will PM you and give some hints for a new drive. But please cool down and refrain from being offensive.Lehmeier wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 6:49 amHow should it continue if you can't flash the drives and no suitable drives are produced anymore? MakeMKV can process what a drive is able to perform technically! If a drive can't process 4k discs there are no datas for MakeMKV.
The are a lot of LG/ASUS drives with the recommended firmware listed (which you can flash for free). Just check it out ----> viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634
Also you can find there listed compatible Pioneer drives. One thread with all usefull information. It is merely required the ability to read the english language.

I'm from Germany. and I wasn't insulting you, just pointing out that you're putting yourself on the sidelines if you're not able to support current drives.
My references to lists and clear words are in no way meant to be derogatory, but supportive.
As for your PM, I'm looking forward to your suggestions, maybe there are drives that can be used out of the box without flashing.

Pioneer made a good job and until now their encryption is not broken. So you should blame Pioneer and not Makemkv / Mike.
Re: Pioneer Pioneer BDR-RW S13EBK does not play Bluray's and UHD's
Then I hope that this problem will be solved soon and I am looking forward to your PM.
