BD-RW BDR-XS07U FW1.03+ LibreDrive Support

Post by bob1997 »

Hi all,
New owner of the BD-RW BDR-XS07U, I bought this knowing that I would receive XS-07UHD with firmware 1.03+.
I have seen the devs mention that Libre support is being worked on for 1.03 on wards. What I wanted to know, is that still being worked on ? Or does it seem like a dead end?
If that is the case, I might return this and swap it for a 43888 with an LG drive, which I think can be cross flashed.
But if work is still being done for the XS07U I don't mind keeping it as I think overall it's a better quality drive (if I am incorrect on this statement please let me know) and I don't really have a need for ripping UHD's right at the moment.

Thanks!

Well it's been 2+ years so far with no updates so not looking good. If you want to rip UHD, return it and get the Verbatim 43888. Yes, the LG version can be flashed but the Pioneer version works OOTB.
Cheers :D

Fair enough, thanks. You wouldn't happen to have any XS07's by any chance, maybe some old forgotten stock haha ? I'm based in Australia as well.

In terms of the 43888 with an LG drive, do you have any concerns about that model in terms of build quality/ drive quality?

Thanks

Nah, it's been a couple of years since I've had any external Pioneer drives. The only external now is the Verbatim 43888. I have both the Pioneer and LG versions available.

Can't say about longevity as they've only just started using the LG BU40N. It is a fairly decent drive though. The BU40N is probably LG's best model. The BU40N is also in the Archgon and Buffalo so it seems to be pretty popular.
Cheers :D

Appreciate the response and comments.
How would one go about flashing the 43888 with the LG drive? Email you or Copper? Or do you have tools on your website ?
Think I might take the gamble with the 43888 as it's nearly $100 off compared to the XS07
Thanks!

The Verbatim 43888 (LG BU40N version) can easily be flashed by using SDFtool Flasher. The Verbatim 43888 (Pioneer BDR-UD04 version) works OOTB so either way, it's easy to get going!
Cheers :D
