I have an LG HL-DT-ST BVDVDRW CH10SL20. I see all sorts of drives listed including L30, but not L20. Is there any magic to getting it added?

What does MakeMKV say about it?

If there is no LibreDrive section of the Info window under "Drive Information" when you start MakeMKV, there is no current or planned support for the drive (my UH08LS10 from 2009 is that way).

Sorry Im totally new to ripping - if it did not occour already

It currently says:

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, might be supported in future, but not likely soon
Drive platform: RS1013
Firmware version: 1.00-00

I guess the driver platform is wrong?

currently I have a Family PLEX-server with DVD's and HD blurays. I have recently got a 4k oled and wanted to find out if it was time to upgrade/buy some 4k HDR material for that server, but I was unsure if my current BD drive was able to rip those

It is probably worth pointing out that MakeMKV can utilize more than one optical drive at the same time. On the IO tab in MakeMKV's Preferences, if you turn on 'Ask for single drive mode' and if you have more than one optical drive on your system, when you start MakeMKV, it'll ask you which optical drive you want that instance of MakeMKV to use. There should also be a menu item called New MakeMKV instance, which can be pointed at a different optical drive. You can then rip more than one disc at the same time.

This is a long winded way of saying adding a UHD-friendly optical drive doesn't mean you have to stop using your existing drive. Buying a recommended drive from the list and flashing it yourself isn't super hard and buying a pre-flashed and tested drive from one of the sellers listed is even easier (and a bit more expensive for the obvious reasons).
