Trouble burning with WH14NS40

Tried searching for this answer and the closest i could come to an answer was cross flashing of firmware but i don't think it fits my issue here? Bought a drive and it totally can read 4k, it extracts the file fine however, once i try to burn files using anyburn or burnaware it gets a write error or it just flat out does not work/takes too long to respond. I have it hooked to an external sata to usb converter. the previous bluray drive works fine so im sure its the drive itself and not some bandwidth issue. i tried burning bdr 50gb, bdxl, mdisc, all failed.

first try going to WH16NS60 1.02mk and see if burning works

Thanks for the reply, i will try that. I went over here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 19&t=19113 and downloaded the pack but the directory named WH16NS60 contains a file with the extension .bin but has 1.03 on there and not 1.02, is there a backup somewhere of 1.02mk? thanks again.

LG drives are lousy burners for all discs >25GB. They consistently fail at the layer break when they switch at the 25GB limit of the first layer to the next. For decent results you need a Pioneer burner an Japanese Verbatim 50GB discs.
I never tried anything with even larger discs but I guess even more trouble is coming your way.
What is the purpose of these big discs? If I have anything larger than 50GB I use Elby's CloneBD to shrink it to 50GB.

I noticed right after I hit the reply button. But yea, i patched to 1.02mk and it still fails to burn, on anyburn it says

"Error writing data"

It detects the disk as empty, says VERBAT for disc manufacturer under disc information but no dice with actually burning. Any other tips or suggestions I should try or should I just move on?

Strangely enough my previous bluray drive that i used to burn is a Pioneer burner. The disks Im using now are verbatim 50gb discs. I dont mind not having the option to burn with this LG but just trying to find out why I cant burn at all using any disc. I guess Ill use the pioneer to burn and this to rip uhd exclusively. I was just trying to burn regular data discs.

I would continue with the Pioneer only to burn discs. Maybe you have some exotic discs the LG doesn't have a burn strategy in its firmware. Install IMGBURN and it will show if the LG has burn strategies for your disc. Try other / smaller capacity discs if those work. Anyway - using the LG for discs >25GB is not a good idea at all. They will have quality issues. Multi-layer BDs can't avoid the critical outer section. The burner just burns to the end of layer 1 and then continues with layer 2. The layer braek can not be set as it was the case with multi-layer DVDs. With those you could avoid the critical outer section.

Can you burn using IMGBURN?

Pioneer BD burners are the best. Just get a most recent one. I own a 209.

Will do that. No I get the same thing with imgburn, it wont write. Guessing the drive itself is messed up where it cant burn but only read.

edit: i tried 1.02 original, 1.03mk, 1.05mk, downgraded, nothing gets it to burn so im guessing the drive itself is defective and is not capable of burning. the drive itself has sticker that reads 1.03 so the last thing to try is the official? not gonna do that. oh well. if you guys have any other tries i could do let me know, i even hooked it up directly to the sata, same deal, it wont start burning no matter what file i try, tried different discs as well.

Urf that sucks that is one of the reasons I stoped selling these so many defective
For uhd ripping I recommend you go back to WH16NS60 firmware to avoid the sleep bug and have faster ripping speeds
