Will support for Pioneer drives with upgraded firmware eventually be supported? Unaware I'd lose compatibility, I upgraded my BDR-212UBK from 1.02 to:

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212U
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: TKDL001706WL
Firmware date: 2023-08-01
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F01
Firmware version: ID58

No disc inserted

At least I still have my LG drives for backup.

Who knows?? Let's put it this way. It has been worked on for almost 18 months and as yet, nothing has happened. I wouldn't hold my breath!

Why update the firmware? There really isn't ever a need to do this.....
Cheers :D

Unless there's a danger to it, I have a habit of upgrading firmware on all my gear to insure latest compatibility, the latest bug fixes, etc.. What can I say. My bad. I should have given it more thought. I vaguely remember upgrading from an earlier firmware to 1.02 and didn't think it would be a problem, which it wasn't if I did. I guess Pioneer caught up with MakeMKV. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Time to go back to my LG WH16NS40 for 100GB and WH16NS60 for 66GB. I'll explain more about that in LG threads.

At least I still have my Pioneer for 1080p Blu-rays and SD DVDs. And while not anytime soon, who knows. Maybe Mike might figure out another work-around. If he does, I'll find out what the latest firmware compatible with that work-around is won't perform an update if it either hasn't been tested or is not compatible.

Are you saying that getting a BDR-212DBK off Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081R5CS4L) or the BDR-212V (btw, any significant difference between these 2?) would likely come with patchable firmware? (no UHD support obviously but can still enable Libre Drive support?) Then I can return the BDR-213M and just get that instead. Unless there are other drawbacks to doing that (other than losing UHD support).

Thanks!

So, just ordered one of the BDR-212DBK off Amazon from that link. At the least the one from my local amazon warehouse seems to say manufacture date Jan 2024. I'll confirm when I get home, had someone grab it for me when they took the dog out since it's storming. Do they generally ship with older firmware or should I just cut my losses if I confirm the 2024 date?
