Don't do it until Makemkv supports it!

It appears that all newly-released Pioneer firmwares containing the updated kernel in the package have the downgrade protection now. We are investigating the situation. Please don't update the drive firmware unless you really need it for some purpose!

Of course being a total noob I have done so before reading this thread.

Product: BD-RW BDR-S12U

Hello

I have purchased a BDR-S12XLT aka BDR-S12. It came with FW 1.01. Is FW 1.02 compatible with LibreDrive or should I keep it on FW 1.01 as the last currently compatible FW?

No need to update it. Leave it on 1.01. It works well.

Can anyone point me to the firmware flasher so I can have a go at downgrading it from 1.04?

It does work on firmware 1-02 & 1-03, but as Marty says, please leave as is. I totally agree with him, there is no need to flash.

i did flash & confirm that once i upgrade to 1.04, i can't flash back to lower version.
then i can't cross-flash anymore.

so, don't upgrage more than v1.03!

Looks like I will have to wait it out with my fingers crossed then as am outside of the return window, If I had known about the SGX thing in advance I wouldn't have bothered then thought upping the firmware might help when all it did was take out makemkv too. I think that if UHD is to continue as a thing on PC it needs someone to come up with a hardware card for DRM compliance / bypass

That's what this is but your fw 1.04 ruined that
May get patched in the future may need to be flashed we will see.
Or it could be the end for pioneer drives already but who knows

Can the previous kernel be used with the latest firmware file or is the kernel linked to the firmware version?

Am toying with the idea of just getting another drive but if there is likely to be a breakthrough in the next couple of months I'll delay. Expensive mistake :|
