Read your PM.
Thanks! I am purchasing your suggestion.

Regarding the flasher you mentioned, can it be run on Linux?
You will need a Windows PC.
Thanks for clarifying. Would you have a recommended enclosure? Or should any USB enclosure suffice?

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023 says:

... for now any USB devices that works with optical drives should be able to flash them...

I got the drive and the enclosure only thing I'm waiting for is the adapter for the powerplug that will arrive tomorrow.

Could I get that PM?
You need to tell what you have or what you want plus your country of residence.
5 1/4" bay, USA is what I have and where I'm at

I'm about to get a new laptop, on which I plan to run Arch Linux. Are there any good options for external drives which will work with that setup? (I'm in the USA.)

You need someone else to answer. Options are based on Windows.

Hello there,
I live in France, and would like to have some recommendations for external Blu-ray players, to play Blu-rays coming from all over the world.
This is to be used both on a laptop and a desktop computer, on which there is no place for an internal drive.
Thank you for your help. ;)

Hello, I'm located in the United States and looking for an external (5.25" or slim) UHD drive. Is the ASUS BW-16D1X-U a good option? Thanks. :)

I don’t see that model listed exactly, but sounds like it would be considered part of the ‘junk that you hope works’?

The assumption is that he received a bad batch since he also sells that drive again. Look for the Verbatim that says 43888 in the description in Amazon. It will play UHDs right out-of-the-box. Beware: It's very power hungry and might not work with all USB3 ports. You might need a powered USB hub. And yes, the enclosure electronics is not the best and I have read that some failed while the internal drive was still OK.
Thank you. I can also get ahold of the BDR-212V for around the same cost. A better choice? I already have have usb converters that work with other optical drives.
This drive is very reliable. Get it and post again when you have it. You will being helped with it.
I got the 212V, but I said so in another post so you probably overlooked it.
