Clean the disc
Replace the disc
I have cleaned the disc at least 10 times with 3M microfibre cloth.

Where is the logic in spending more money when that might not resolve it?

I've experienced this with some 4K blu rays too. I'd suggest;
- Remove the disc
- Restart the computer
- Open MakeMKV, insert the disk
- As soon as the disc is recognised, rip the entire disc to a folder using the 'Make Backup' option
- You can then create an MKV from the backup folder, not the disc

I'm not exactly sure why this works but I suspect there is some kind of timeout issue or the decryption process glitches during the creation of the MKV directly from the disc. I'd be interested to hear if this helps. Sometimes you might need to repeat the whole process a couple of times to get success.
I'll give those suggestions a try.

Thanks!

That is not my style at all.

Aside from that, I've had this BluRay for over 10 years.

I have had a couple of blu-ray discs degrade enough to no longer be rippable after about 7 years and I store mine in a cupboard in my theatre room.

Hi
I am new to this forum and from India. I am also new to UHD ripping since all this time I only got my UHD files as ripped delivered from friends and family. Lately wanted to get my own UHD ripping started to back up my disks and started with MakeMKv. Just to say you guys rock, the tool is super easy and perfect in all the way. Following the recommendation was able to pick an Asus BW -16D1HT drive for my PC (internal mount) and got around to flash the drive to 3.10MK with SDF tool to make it start reading them UHD disc. Here is the MKv info

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.10
Serial number: KLUL6DF2535
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 10:14
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 3.10
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

The problem I have is that recently i picked the LOTR 4K's and tried to rip the disc to MKV, was not successful with one of the disc and how many times I try it always said i cant read the file. I also had the Zack Snyder trilogy which played direct. I assumed there was something wrong with the disc's so got a replacement.
During the MKv rip I started experiencing with drive not reading any Blu ray but with power cycle it would. Also the LOTR discs wont rip in MakeMKV (disc log attached)
but worked with DVD FAB no idea how and why!
My main worry is that i would want to understand if this power recycle is the solution to make my drive to start reading info again.
Any suggestions would help!! I would have bought the drives from here if only I was in the UK or the US, customs here is just crazy to import items.

thanks
get short

Power off the PC or if drive is external for a full min with power switch off or unplugged it will come back to life

Thanks that did not work. The current disks cannot be recognized by the drive:

Snow White and the Huntsman 4k UHD (HDR)
John Wick 2 4k UHD (HDR)
Die Another Day 4k UHD (Dolby Vision)
Dune 4k UHD (Dolby Vision)

But other disks that I have are being recognized via the drive.

Thanks

i see i thought you meant it was seeing no discs the only fix for that is.
clean the discs
clean the laser
get BU40N
also at least 2/4 of those are BD100 i couldn't find die another day 4k if its bd66 or bd100 if you mean no time to die its BD100 , snow white is BD66
so im leaning towards this being a drive issue with BD100 discs cleaning the laser may help

Sorry yes it is called no time to die. Will try to clean the disks.

How do l clean the laser. Will Q-tip with rubbing alcohol work? Do I remove the drive from the PC to do this?

Note these disks work in my 4k blu ray player just not in the is cd drive in my pc.

Regards

RK

I am having the same issue sort of, my drive is not reading any Discs, DVD or Blue Ray. I have taken apart and cleaned still no joy. Changed cable, tried it on another Mac... no matter what I try Make MKV sees the drive, shows all the info about the drive... but im always getting a no disc inserted. Also when not running MakeMKV no Disc is ever loaded or shows up in any DVD/BR players.

Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.10
Serial number: M6LIBNC5541
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 10:14

No disc inserted

wondering if it just died, purchased May 2019

I have a UHD drive that worked well for a while, but stopped reading blu-ray and UHD discs after it failed to read a troublesome UHD disc. I tried several things: restarting computer, reinstall MakeMKV, cleaning discs and the drive itself. Nothing. I reflashed the firmware to the drive and now it's as good as new. So in my case it got stuck in a very strange state and a simple reflash worked.
