I have a Pioneer drive, here is the info from makemkv:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S13JX
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: CGDL000324WL
Firmware date: 2022-12-12
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9201
Firmware version: ID72

No disc inserted
But when there is a disc inserted (either dvd, or bluray) the makemkv doesn't finish the drive scan.
The sdftool also hangs.

What might be the problem and how to fix it?
Is it possible to enable the LibreDrive functionality (and how)?

That drive can't be flashed as it has the dreaded post Nov 2022 firmware. It should still work for DVD/BD just not UHD and can't have libredrive enabled. If you want to rip UHD discs, return it.
Cheers :D

Greetings,

I do not own any UHD discs, but I would like to make my drives LibreDrive compatible. I just purchased three new bluray drives, I took the shotgun approach in hopes one might be possible.

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: DDDL001758UC
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9330
Firmware version: GENE

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: SIM2121BG1826
Firmware date: 2121-07-08 16:09
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MOEOAMA4115
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

And, if you might, what is your opinion of these three? My intention was to only keep one or two and return the others. Which would you keep?

I have had this drive for a while and I thought it was not capable of UHD the last time I looked into it, or maybe I just never found the right information. Should it be possible to read UHD now? I see a few other posts for similar drives, so appreciate any advice. It does seem to still have older firmware.

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD07
Revision: 1.03
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-08-20
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8D30
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS7
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted

Only the last 2 can have libredrive enabled but I would keep the BU40N and return the WP50NB40. The Pioneer is still a good drive but the firmware is too new and can't be flashed to enable libredrive.
