I took the risk and flashed the modified firmware on my Techpulse120.
I used the following:
ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified)
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-U101-MM01201-211711301153.bin (mk-firmware-pack-20191206)
Flashing was done directly via USB.
The drive works great, I'm thrilled.
