Flashing a LG BP55EB40 V1.03 SVC EB52 Blu-Ray drive

Post by cuppa »

Hello,
I just joined the forum because I want to flash my LG BP55EB40 V1.03 SVC EB52 slim external Blu-Ray drive with the right LibreDrive firmware. It was manufactured 12/10/2024. I've searched the forum and found information for this here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=37876&p=199629&hil ... 40#p199629. However the file it lists there is not in the mk firmware pack. It specifically states "Select the file that starts with 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP55EB40-NB50-1.03' inside the BP55EB40-NB50 folder of the mk firmware pack.". There is no BP55EB40-NB50 folder or a "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP55EB40-NB50-1.03" file. Is this outdated information or is there a newer mk firmware pack or guide that I haven't found yet?

I also found the 2026 guide but it doesn't list steps for my drive.
How can I find the files and guide I need to flash this drive correctly? I don't want to brick it. :(

Here is my LG slim drive info according to MakeMKV:
BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP55E840 1.03 SIK0EOCAD0621
Firmware date: 2121-07-08 16:06 <--- That's not a typo. That's the year it shows.
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT 1959

Here is the info according to SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.6)
MT 1959 Platform: green checkmark
Encrypted Firmware: green checkmark

*** Thanks guys for any help. ***

Just follow the SDFtool Flasher guide and gif in first post of that thread. You can use the BP50NB40 1.03-MK firmware or BP55EB40 1.03-MK firmware for the first step and first part of the RECOVER process.
Cheers :D

Thank you for the reply. However, It not taking the last step where I write the DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 firmware.

Here is the steps I took.
I flashed the DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin firmware. It was successful.
Then I recovered the drive by selecting the drive with the new firmware (DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin). It was successful.
Then I wrote the DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin firmware. It was successful. But the drive still shows as HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212005070917_SIK0EOCAD0621
I even flashed it a second time. Still no luck.
What did I do wrong?

You are doing it wrong!!! Follow the gif.

After flashing the drive the first time, when you click RECOVER, in the popup select the same firmware you just flashed. Now, in the normal firmware drop down box, choose BU40N 1.00 firmware. Click START.
Cheers :D

Guys, Sorry for the delay in replying. Work and life and woman got in the way.
Anyways, I followed Marty's directions and it worked like a charm. I apologize for being a idiot.
I do want to add something in case someone else reads this for tips. After the flashing is done, you have to unplug the drive from the computer (and any power going to it if any). Then plug it back in and it should work fine. That's what I had to do.

Thank you guys so much!!

Yes, it is always recommended to power cycle the drive after flashing.
