BDR-212T/BDR-209MBK

Post by D3619 »

Hello everyone,

I got a question regarding Pioneer drives. In the last few weeks I got a hand on 8 Pioneer drives in external ASUS enclosures, 4 of them are BDR-209MBK and 4 of them should be BDR-212T according to MakeMkv. The BDR-209MBK were flashed by me to the S11J and the BDR-212T to BDR-S12U.

If I take a look into the device information provided by the flasher the BDR-209MBK are listed as 209MBK with drive platform RS8800, in MakeMkv they appear after the flash as a S11.

But if I take a look into the device information provided by the flasher for the BDR-212T they are all listed as BDR-209MBK too, but with an other drive platform (RS8F01). In MakeMkv they appear all as RS8F01 too, product is not the BDR-S12U, Firmware name is BDR-212T. All of them were manufactured between August 2023 and August 2024.

According to some research in this forum RS8F01 is the newer platform for BDR-S12U and BDR-212.

I shucked one of the drives with a BDR-212T in it and the drive is a BDR-209MBK like the flasher said.

So is it indeed a BDR-209MBK with firmware of the BDR-212?

No. Some 212s are sold as 209s. You just look at the hardware platform. 209s are either 8600 or 8601. To flash them you need the appropriate firmware 8800 or 8801. 212s are either 8F00 or 8F01. Both can be flashed to UHD with the 8F01 firmware.

Firmware on the drives must be older than Dec. 2022.

I can confirm for Billycar11. My BDR-XD05W with a flash date of 3/02/2023 was locked from reading UHD. Now it is reading and ripping. Billycar11 process is very quick. Thank you.

Ah okay. Hardware from a 212 labeled as 209. Got it.

Thank you!
