As per this thread viewtopic.php?f=19&t=40461 Coopervid's advice is to "downgrade to 1.17.7 and flash BU40N 1.00." on my slim external Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B.
Read through the guide and will do so again. To clarify what I understand so far:
1) download SDFtool Flasher and All You Need Firmware Pack
2) flash BU40N 1.03-MK first
3) flash BU40N 1.00 next
Just a bit fuzzy on when to use write or recovery. I'm currently blaming this on a lack of coffee and sleep. Guess I'll see if there's a video tutorial out there.
Many thanks to everyone in the MakeMKV community.

Proper flashing procedure for Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B
Re: Proper flashing procedure for Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B
Thanks, Coopervid. So both times I just select the firmware and choose Write. ie, write 1.03, then write 1.00?
Hope you have a great holiday season.

Hello, thanks for the info on this drive. I was able to pick one up and have successfully flashed it to 1.03 with the firmware in the all you need firmware pack.
I wasn't able to find the 1.00 firmware in the "all you need" pack. I did find "DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin" in the firmware pack in this post but wasn't sure it is the correct version for the slim drive.

Re: Proper flashing procedure for Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B
I just got this drive from Amazon.
new to all this flashing so bare with me please, have questions.
So what is 1.17.7 all about and do I need to downgrade to 1.17.7 and where do I even find this?
Or do I just ignore this 1.17.7 info and just start doing the following:
Flash - DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin (first)
Flash again - DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin (second)
What the reason behind going to 1.03 then back to 1.00, isn't 1.00 older? why not use the newer 1.03?
Just to confirm I have the slim BRXL-PUS6U3B:
Manufacturer: BUFFALO
Revision: BN14
Firmware date: 2121-06-21 13:33
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 81
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Thank you

For UHD discs, MK firmware only works with MakeMKV and Xreveal. If you use other UHD ripping software, v1.00 is what you want.raymate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 11:05 pmI just got this drive from Amazon.

Re: Proper flashing procedure for Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B
Hi all, I have the same drive and have done the above.
But I have a question: is it possible to go back to 1.03 after going to 1.00?
I tried to go back to 1.03 and SDFtool Flasher showed an error dialog as soon as I clicked "Start", it asked if I wanted to Continue or Quit. I chose Quit and looks like no damage was done. I kept a copy of the error output if anyone wants to see it. Thanks for your help.

Yes. I flashed mine to 1.03 then to 1.00 to see what would happen. It worked fine then I flashed it back to 1.03 and all was well. Ripped about 10 discs so far after flashing it multiple timeshoustonrocket wrote: ↑Wed Jan 28, 2026 4:16 pmHi all, I have the same drive and have done the above.
