Why has my BU40N external Libredrive drivers stopped working (Code 39)?

Post by geogan »

It's been working years on this machine without problem... now Windows is saying some driver is missing?
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Object Name not found.
In events log for driver it says:
Device USBSTOR\CDROM&VEN_HL-DT-ST&PROD_BD-RE_BU40N&REV_1.04\4D4F344B435449313631342020202020&0 was deleted.
Is it anything to do with this WinRing 0 Driver problem (https://gamersnexus.net/features/insecu ... vel1-techs) Windows removed? I see FanControl software has now moved to some new method of hardware sensors WinRing 0 Driver removed.

EDIT: Well this seems to be some problem on my main Windows 11 24H2 based machine... I just plugged the drive into my Windows 10 based PLEX movie server and it is working as normal. I wonder did some new Windows 11 update break the driver somehow. Or maybe some low level anti-cheat kernel driver from EA?

Still not working on latest Windows 11 either. I just searched this forum and found my own post about it (memory of goldfish)!

Anyone know why? Some posts say disabling Memory Integrity (Core Isolation) might fix it... but that is needed for latest EA anti-cheat security.

EDIT: found cause and solution here viewtopic.php?t=32396

When I looked in Event Viewer for System I could see it was trying to use that old driver by a third party:

The driver \Driver\GEARAspiWDM failed to load
