Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
Just to be verify before I flash this drive.
MakeMKV returned the following:
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: E113
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B

Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: E113/ID76
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
No disc inserted
But when I went to flash it with BDRFlash (BDR-212U firmware), it says that the drive is a BDR-209MBK.
Is the BDR-212U firmware compatible with my drive, or should I be using a BDR-209MBK v3 firmware (which I don't have).
Sorry for the questions. I just wanted to be sure.

Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
You are cross-flashing it to 212U firmware to enable UHD readability.nico8516 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:34 amJust to be verify before I flash this drive.

Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
My LG WH16NS40 just died, so I'm going to have to purchase something. Pricing and availability varies, but the local Microcenter has Asus BW-16D1X-U in stock for the same price I'm seeing online. So I was thinking of picking one up after reading this thread.
It looks like the most recent posters are getting a Pioneer drive in the enclosure when purchasing an Asus BW-16D1X-U. And while the firmware and process isn't posted, it is flashable (and usable with MakeMKV) with PM being sent. Is that correct?
EDIT: And can this drive be taken out of the external enclosure and put internally? (I do have 5.25" external bays)

Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
Correct. But if it's a Pioneer drive inside the firmware must be older than Dec. 2022 to enable UHD capability. Buy it and if the firmware is younger return it. If a LG is inside you can flash it with the tools available in the forum.KidJoe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 3:27 pmMy LG WH16NS40 just died, so I'm going to have to purchase something.
