This has a LG 5.25" drive inside. You can flash it to WH16NS60 1.02-MK using SDFtool Flasher.Ghop2025 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 30, 2025 4:57 amCan't read 4K disc ( first time trying to as well ). Where do I get the firmware to write to update the drive? Any drawbacks anyone has seen by updating?

Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
Hello, I just got myself a BW-16D1X-U as well. I'm new to this, so could someone verify that that I've got the correct understanding of what I need to do to flash? I have SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6 on my machine, and from "The all you need firmware pack" from the ultimate UHD flashing guide, do I use LG 5.25 desktop > HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-... for flashing (based on previous comments)? Thanks!

Re: Asus BW-16D1X-U
In Jan 2021 I bought an LG WH14NS40 and flashed it myself. It's been a good internal drive, but has failed on 5 different discs in a row - so I thought it was time to buy a new one.
The Asus external BW-16D1X-U was cheaper last week, so I went with that one. I've used it to copy a normal Blu-Ray (that failed on my internal drive) as a test run and it worked great.
But I bought 4K LoTR over Black Friday and need to rip it.
I noticed that "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide" doesn't cover this model, and I ended up on this thread.
It appears, based on the info below, that my BW-16D1X-U has a Pioneer drive inside and that my only option is to rely on the good graces of @coopervid, and hope he takes pity on me.
Is that correct?
Thanks.
- Josh
