Back when I bought my external drive, I was dissapointed to find out it was not UHD friendly, some even claimed it could not read UHD bc hardware was not present. Decided today to see if anything changed and am unsure if it has. Here's my drive info, still no UHD?

Also if it is possible, will I lose the capability to write 100GB M-Disks?

Thanks for your time!

I was hoping I could get some help with my new optical drive. When inserting a DVD I can play it on my laptop running Linux Mint, but MakeMKV is simply stuck "Loading...". Looking at the debug logs it says "No SDF v098: ASUS_BW-16D1H-U_A205_212012011818_[serial]", so I figured I probably have to flash the drive. I have tried running sdftool dump, sdftool flash and flashing using makemkvcon, but it every time the process is stuck with 100% CPU usage and no output in the terminal. Any ideas?

[Edit]: Downgraded to MakeMKV 1.17.6 and was able to successfully flash.

hello guys,I need some help to flash my drive
PM sent.
Hello, I have a similar situation, I would like to be able to rip UHD discs in my ASUS BW-16D1H-U Pro. This is the output from MakeMKV app:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: J:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1H-U
Revision: E116
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: E116/ID71
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
I wanted to sent PM directly to Coopervid since I've been informed that this it the person I should ask for help, but unfortunately I don't have possibility to send PM to anyone.
I would be grateful if you could help me with flashing my drive!
Also - one more question: do the firmware update changes something when it comes to burning Blu-ray discs? I remember that it was an issue (probably for LG drives?) that after an update burning would be impossible. How does it look like with my drive?

PM sent. No. The firmware doesn't affect burning.

Hey Cooper, much love, seems to have worked, but I'm seeing _lower_ write speeds on the drive now (used to average 6x-9x and s now staying around 3,9x. The drive also isn't reporting as a UHD capable drive in the program, all of the UHD options remain unticked.

Post Makemkv info with an UHD in the drive. Pioneer UHD ripping is 4x max. That's normal.

As per instructions, I completely disconnected and powered off the drive itself, PC stayed on.

I notice that ripping non-UHD discs in MakeMKV now constantly fails on some of the files. This did not happen before whatsoever.

Rebooting does not fix the issue, and drive is indeed having serious issues after flashing with the exact instructions. It's failing to copy any disc, showing as ' disconnected' multiple times, which makes MakeMKV skip files. I don't currently have UHD discs needing ripping, so I'm using regular disks.

Such a thing has never been reported before. Is this a drive in an USB enclosure? If yes you need to remove power AND USB. Otherwise the drive electronics is still powered by the USB connection.

These errors can also originate if the drive doesn't get enough power. Maybe with the new firmware it needs more power.

Oh I'm assuming it's a skill issue on my end. I powered it down and removed USB as stated in the guide.

Maybe it's just a different enough platform that it doesn't work that well. I've also looked at BDRFlash options and tried a few after I first saw the issue. Reducing peak power mode doesn't seem to help much, so I doubt it's a power issue.

It's inconsistent on different discs and fails different files even in multiple runs of the same disc.

I suppose for all successful flashes someone has to fail. No hard feelings, I'll reflash this to original firmware.

You can try to flash it once more. If it doesn't help, please post the errors in Makemkv you get.
