Hello,
I ordered a few DVDs with older movies (most recent one is from 2013) and would like to make them available in my local Jellyfin for convenience. I looked at recent posts in this forum tried to match it with what seems easily available in germany and found the Verbatim 43888. However, it costs 100€+, and since there are no plans for UHD or blue ray missions yet, I was wondering if I even need such a fancy drive? Do you have recommendations for internal or (preferably) external drives?
Thank you and best regards
Internal/External drive for DVD only
Re: Internal/External drive for DVD only
In my view, if you're going to buy a new drive, you might as well get one that supports ripping UHDs.
If you really don't need that level of functionality, you might try looking in your closet for an old optical drive or trying to find a really cheap used drive. MakeMKV works with most (though not all) DVD and regular blu-ray drives. Even an 'internal' drive can be put in an enclosure so it can be used externally. The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide also has a list of some SATA to USB adapters for making internal drives usable externally.
