I managed to restore an old Verbatim 71097 and get it working again, but am unable to see the full details like serial number and enable LibreDrive info to see if I can crossflash it to read UHD discs... am I doing something wrong? This is my current MakeMKV info:

Code: Select all

Product: BD-RW BDRUD03AS
Revision: 1.10
Firmware date: 2017-04-18

Firmware version: ID23

No disc inserted

Greetings,

I do not own any UHD discs, but I would like to make my drives LibreDrive compatible. I just purchased three new bluray drives, I took the shotgun approach in hopes one might be possible.

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: DDDL001758UC
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9330
Firmware version: GENE

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: SIM2121BG1826
Firmware date: 2121-07-08 16:09
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MOEOAMA4115
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

And, if you might, what is your opinion of these three? My intention was to only keep one or two and return the others. Which would you keep?
Only the last 2 can have libredrive enabled but I would keep the BU40N and return the WP50NB40. The Pioneer is still a good drive but the firmware is too new and can't be flashed to enable libredrive.
Hi,

I have a BD-RE BU40N, like MidwestPancakes:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MO3P2DE5037
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Is this the right place to ask which firmware and tooling should I use to flash this with LibreDrive?

1st post of
Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025
says:

Recommended Firmware to flash for MakeMKV:
...
BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK
(HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin)
...

BDE-PR1EP can it be done?

Post by thewallace »

Sorry to crosspost this: I have an interesting drive out of a Epson disc publisher, a Pioneer BDE-PR1EP. I've converted a LG to UHD in the past with no issues but I'm unsure about the firmware for Pioneers. Can this model be converted? The info below is on a BD, a 4K just makes seeking noise in the tray.

The SDF Tool said it had the wrong platform. I'll keep it as a pure BD player/writer. Oh well.

The SDF Tool is for LG's platform MT-1959.

For 4k flash for your drive you should ask Billycar11 as Marty suggested. Perhaps there's a solution.
