Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
I used the Amazon link and ordered one. My Verbatim arrived today and I was dissappointed to discover that mine came with the LG drive. I was hoping for a Pioneer with old FW like you received. But I found the GUI flasher tool and the correct FW for the LG drive and had no issues flashing the FW. Ripping my first disc as a test. So far so good. I can't believe how simple this is!!!albydarned wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:06 amFor what its worth, ordered from the us store here last week on sale for $86.

Kudos to all involved in creation of MakeMKV, the flashing tools, and supporting this forum!!
Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
And I just received my Verbatim 43888 today. The Model Code is KIAB and mine has an LG drive. It came with the 1.05 FW Dated 2024-04-23. But the SDF GUI Flasher made quick work of it. I'm now at v1.03MK and ripping as I type.ryley wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:21 pmFor what it is worth, I have a Pioneer Verbatim 43888 with the model code KIAA. I find that model code a little strange as you would think the Pioneer would be A as its an earlier version.
Would be good if someone can post a model code of an older version that at least 12 months old.
Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
Ordered from Amazon yesterday and it came delivered today. It is a Pioneer drive still! (BDR-UD04 with 1.14)
Hooked it up and I am ripping without issues from the start. Sweet.
First movie (72Gb file) took about 48 min.

Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
I wonder if the 43888 with LG comes with or without the power problem 'cause the thirst of energy like the ones with the pioneers?
Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
Hello All,
I'm pretty new to makemkv so please excuse any "noob" questions.
So I bought one of these about a week ago off Amazon US and pretty sure it came with LG drive. My big question is what is the big difference between the Pioneer and LG drive?
From what I'm seeing Pioneer works out of box since it has older FW. But LG needs patched because it's on newer?
Do the LGs NEED to be patched to work? Or just needs patched to be compatible with all formats?
As I did a test rip on a Blu-ray on my LG and it ripped just fine and movie quality was great.
So little confused if I need to do the patching
Any help I would greatly appreciate it

It only needs flashing to enable libredrive and rip 4K UHD discs.Kammandur wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2025 11:39 pmHello All,

Hey Everyone, reporting in on Verbatim 43888.
Ordered off of Amazon in the Northwest US last week, received KIAB model with LG BN40U drive. SDFflasher worked as advertised with the recommended firmware as per the updated 2025 flashing guide. Happily backing up all my boutique 4K releases at 6x. Thanks to all involved.

Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
Add one more Verbatim 43888 with a LG drive to the list. This was ordered from amazon.de.
Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
Well it may not contain a Pioneer drive, but with the Verbatim 43888 I was finally able to back up a difficult Seven UHD.
Re: Verbatim 43888 with LG drive?
Just managed to buy a 43888 with a Pioneer drive from some dealer's remaining stock on eBay and wanted to confirm:
- on the back of the packaging there is recycling-info printed (instead of an image of the drive) as shown here:
viewtopic.php?p=164009#p164009 - the model code is indeed KIAB - which can be seen through the plastic film wrapped around the drive
(in case anyone wants to confirm this before damaging the packaging too much for a potential refund...)
