SDFtool not finding .NET Desktop Runtime

Post by BarryTice »

Hello!

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on an old T430 Thinkpad (i5-3320M processor). Yeah, I know it's old; but it's something that I can leave running "over there" and come back in an hour or so to swap in another disc.

I have an LG BP60NB10 drive that I'm using for my ripping, and it's been great so far except for a 4K UHD Bluray.

I found https://www.reddit.com/r/UHD_Drives/com ... drive_use/ with instructions for pushing new firmware to it, but I'm having problems getting `SDFtool Flasher.exe` to run. I've tried four different versions of the .NET installer (4.8, 6.0.428, 8.0.405, and 9.0.102) from the Microsoft website, but no matter which version I have installed the SDFtool Flasher gives me this error:

```
You must install .NET Desktop Runtime to run this application.
Architecture: x64
App host version: static
Would you like to download it now?
Learn about runtime installation:
https://aka.ms/dotnet/app-launch-failed
```

I started my journey here by following that URL to get my .NET installer, and that got me version 9.0.102. But after it failed with the same error (even after a reboot) I tried the older versions thinking it might be some issue with Windows 10 (19045.5371) compatibility, to no avail.

I've poked around haven't managed to find anything that helps explain why the SDFtool Flasher can't find .NET after it's been installed. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

If you are using the latest version of SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.5) it has it's .net requirements built in so should not be an issue.

Do you mean the drive works for other 4K UHD discs except this particular disc or it doesn't work for UHD at all?

If the former, changing firmware won't help. Just clean the disc before trying to rip it again. If the latter, show us your MakeMKV drive / LibreDrive info. Also, are you using 64 bit windows? SDFtool Flasher requires it and also the latest version of Win 10, not one of the earlier versions.
Cheers :D

Thanks for asking, MartyMcNuts.

No, this is the only 4K Bluray I own. I had just bought it new, so my attempt to rip it was the first time I had ever spun it.

I appreciate the troubleshooting assistance!
