LG WH16NS60 and Firmware Questions

Post by fatallysilent »

Hello all,

I have been recently been wanting to get back into the UHD backup hobby. I have a LG WH16NS60 that I guess (according to MakeMKV) I patched a while back to 1.01.

Two questions if someone would be so kind to help:

1) What is the difference between 1.02 MK and non-MK bin files? Do the MK firmwares patch the drives and enabled the drive to be a LibreDrive? (in search for an updated flash here, I found both MK/non-MK).

2) Is there any reason to upgrade to 1.02? Or better yet, 1.03? I found 1.03 in another thread with firmwares [0].

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

The drive should be fine as is. No need to change the firmware. If you really want to, 1.02-MK is recommended. 1.03 is not.

There are some non MK firmware files, such as WH16NS60 1.00 which are libredrive enabled already and also allow the drive to be used with other ripping software (whereas MK firmware really only works with MakeMKV). MK firmware enables libredrive.
Cheers :D

Cool, sounds like I'll be following my software development creed on this then:

"If it's not causing problems, it's not worth touching."

I appreciate your quick response and information regarding MK vs. Non-MK firmware.
