Hello all,

I've got an LG drive which I successfully flashed in the past by following the flash instructions here (thank you to all the geniuses out there!) :D

Now I just purchased a Pioneer BDR-212DBK for my old PC which I've plugged in to a TV.
MakeMKV says LibreDrive is enabled but I can't seem to get it to read UHD discs. See below - I have an UHD dis inserted but it reports 'No disc inserted'. I've read on other threads to clean and wash the disc, I've done all this. Btw, this disc reads well and plays back on my LG drive.

Do I need to flash it?

Thank you for any pointers!

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212D
Revision: 1.02
Firmware date: 2022-03-16
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02/ID61
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted

This is my drive information:

Product: BD-RW BDR-212U
Revision: 1.04
Firmware date: 2022-12-20
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F01
Firmware version: ID83

Here's what I need to know:
How do I enable LibreDrive on a Pioneer like this one? Yes, it is one of the drive platforms that should be supported. What firmware do I need to put on the drive, and how do I do that?

Not possible. The firmware is too new. It must be pre December 2022 to be UHD and libredrive compatible.
Cheers :D

You're correct that the firmware is "too new"... Anything after 12/2022 is locked by Pioneer and not updatable (backdatable?).

INTERESTING FACT:
I own a Pioneer BDR-211M and a 212U. They look exactly alike and are known to be hard to flash and enable libredrive and what not. It turns out that my *refurbished* 211M was FLASHED with non-Pioneer firmware and is LibreDrive enabled.

My question is:
How would the previous owner have flashed the Pioneer? They did it somehow, but I'm having trouble figuring out how one would do that.

There is no unofficial pioneer firmware only old stuff

Ok, it's one of those black Pioneers with the UHD Blu Ray logo on the front. I updated the firmware on the drive to a pre-2022 firmware after this happened, so I don't have a screenshot, but I swear I opened it in MakeMKV and it said the firmware was some crazy thing not like the 1.5x or ID58 or whatever, and it said LibreDrive status: ENABLED
