I have been using Pioneer drives for years and when I finally decided to build a dedicated Plex server, my oldest one became unresponsive. I bought the one that seemed to be the closest to my older drive, just a newer updated model. It happened to be a BDR-212DBK. I have been using it a little over a year with makeMKV with a lot of success. I noticed that some newer releases are going away from blu-ray and now only offered in 4K (last round of Disney+ stuff). Several threads mentioned the 12/22 point of no return firmware for UHD compatibility and no longer being able to revert back. Mine is on the latest firmware, but before 12/22:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212D
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: -omitted-
Firmware date: 2022-10-13
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03/ID61
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted

Did I luck out or just miss out the chance for my drive to be UHD friendly?

Wow!!

I just finished ripping some 4K disc and wow!
The Pioneer drive is fast and very quiet, I can barely hear it!
Anyway thanks for the help Coopervid.
Now I have the star wars UHD box set That gave me a lot of trouble ripping them a few
years ago,, I think I will take another crack at those and see
if this drive does better than my old LG drive did! :D

Hi there! I received a lovely BDR-212V drive for Christmas and I am looking forward to updating the firmware to work with UHD discs (and LibreDrive if possible) in the future.

I am currently working out of Linux at the moment, but if Windows is needed, I do have access to this OS as well. Below is what is being shown by MakeMKV (v1.17.8, flatpak):

Drive Information

Code: Select all

OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212V
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2022-05-31
Bus encryption flags: 13
LibreDrive Information

Code: Select all

Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID06
No disc inserted

If someone could send me instructions for my drive, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend! :)

Best,
DustySensors
