It works out of the box. The enclosure is power hungry. Make sure you use an USB port that delivers enough.

Thank you for reaching out; as requested in your email, please find our recommendation as a follow-up to your request to enquire about Item 9 vs Item 6. Your email box is full and we have posted where you originally quoted your enquiry from "Most Reliable & Versatile Drive". Unfortunately, we do not have Item 9 in stock at the moment. However, we recommend Item 6 as an excellent alternative.

Item 6, the BDR-S13EBK, is the exact same drive used in Item 9. The key difference is that Item 9 comes with a fully plastic enclosure and no on-off switch. Item 6 features the Vantec DX2 (model NST-540S3-BK) enclosure, which is primarily made of aluminium. In our opinion, this makes Item 6 a superior option as the enclosure is sturdier and also includes an on/off switch—something Item 9 does not have.

We believe you will be pleased with the quality of Item 6.
