Thanks for clarifying. Would you have a recommended enclosure? Or should any USB enclosure suffice?

I'm about to get a new laptop, on which I plan to run Arch Linux. Are there any good options for external drives which will work with that setup? (I'm in the USA.)

Hello there,
I live in France, and would like to have some recommendations for external Blu-ray players, to play Blu-rays coming from all over the world.
This is to be used both on a laptop and a desktop computer, on which there is no place for an internal drive.
Thank you for your help.

Hello, I'm located in the United States and looking for an external (5.25" or slim) UHD drive. Is the ASUS BW-16D1X-U a good option? Thanks.

I don’t see that model listed exactly, but sounds like it would be considered part of the ‘junk that you hope works’?

I got the 212V, but I said so in another post so you probably overlooked it.Coopervid wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 12:11 pmThis drive is very reliable. Get it and post again when you have it. You will being helped with it.wibbl3 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 11:14 amThank you. I can also get ahold of the BDR-212V for around the same cost. A better choice? I already have have usb converters that work with other optical drives.Coopervid wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 10:59 amThe assumption is that he received a bad batch since he also sells that drive again. Look for the Verbatim that says 43888 in the description in Amazon. It will play UHDs right out-of-the-box. Beware: It's very power hungry and might not work with all USB3 ports. You might need a powered USB hub. And yes, the enclosure electronics is not the best and I have read that some failed while the internal drive was still OK.
