Just installed my BDR-212DBK. Info from MakeMKV:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212D
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: CIDL053978WL
Firmware date: 2022-03-16
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02/ID61
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Ripped a Blu-ray with no problem but when I put a 4K disc in it couldn't read it. I assume 1. I need to flash it 2. It is flash-able, because it's from 3/22.

I have the impression that the BDR-XS07U (firmware 1.01) is more prone to getting stuck running a save in a slow[er] mode (compared to the BDR-XD08U and BDR-X13U that I also have experience with). E.g., if you take too long to pick out what to save from the disc and the drive spins down to a slower rate before you initiate the save then the drive is more likely to perform the save at a slower rate (basically runs at most at 2x or 3x max). Or, the drive might initially perform the save at a decent rate, and then the save enters safe mode and reduces to 3x, but after exiting safe mode the drive doesn't ever go back to a faster rate.

Can't do nothing with that. Perhaps you should return it.

Drive is USB powered & looks to be drawing more than the source can provide. If a 2-USB Y-connector is provided, use both connections. Try rear-panel USB ports. Try an externally powered USB hub.

Good catch, it seems to be using at least an additional 5 watts, perhaps I've never used this for blurays.

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08U
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9331
Firmware version: ID05
Can't do nothing with that. Perhaps you should return it.

Dang ok. I really like this drive model; if i can get my hands on one with firmware from pre Dec 2022, would that work, or does this drive not work all together? And if it does work, do i need special firmware like the LG drives, or does it work out of the box?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you can find a XD08U (UHD version) with pre Dec 2022 firmware then it will work out of the box but you will be very hard pressed to find one anywhere!! They all seem to have the newer firmware.
Cheers :D
