Flashing a LG WH16NS58 with MK firmware

Post by Toaster_King »

I purchased an LG WH16NS58 on eBay in the hopes that I could start ripping UHD blu-rays with MakeMKV. It was only after I pulled the trigger on buying on it that I realised it wasn't listed as a supported drive on the flashing guide. There is a post on this subforum from someone with the same drive (with the same firmware no less), but I'm unsure if that will help me rip using MakeMKV. Since I'm a new user I also can't message @Coopervid for more info, but I'd prefer a detailed solution here to avoid a "DenverCoder9" outcome in the future.

Like Billy said it is not a problem to flash another firmware to it. WH16NS58 is a special firmware to do quality checks for burned discs using qxptools or VPTools. If you want to have or keep this functionality just flash the MK firmware version to it. But also owners of WH16NS40 or ASUS drives can flash their drives to WH16NS58 if they want to have this functionality.
