Slimline/Slotin drive for UHD

Post by gubber »

Hello everyone,

for a HTPC projekt, I need a slimline/slotin drive and I would love it when I can use it as an UHD player.

I was not aware that UHD does not work that simple like a regular BD drive with anyDVD and I just purchased a Panasonic UJ267 (I can return it).
As I understood Panasonic drives can not hanel this, right?

Is there any usable slimline/slotin drive?
Maybe an LG CA30N?
But I find no clear answer if it supports BD-XL / UHD.

Thanks and regards,
Felix

No ca30/40n
Can't do UHD
Get a BU40N and figure out how to make a tray load drive work no slot load drives do UHD yet

Unfortunately there is no way to change the case (without makes it look like shit).

Do I have to expect issues with the UJ267 with regualr BDs?

I am actually also looking for a slot-in drive (for my Node8 case). If there aren't any available at all, are there any external slot-in ones that maybe could get converted?

I'm also looking for a UHD compatible, slimline, slot load drive. I found a couple external slimline drives like the Pioneer BDR-XS06T and BDR-XS07UHD, but I can't tell if those might could be disassembled and used in a regular laptop mount.

Don't go for a Panasonic. They have even issues with BDs and regions. Look here. Get a LG BU40 or a Pioneer slim.

The BU40 isn't a slot load. However the Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD is an external slot load. Does anyone know if the drive inside is SATA and could be mounted in a laptop?

Sometimes you need to change the front part. Make sure your laptop hasn't any restrictions regarding brands and types. Or just get an USB enclosure.

The drive inside has a USB connector soldered directly on the drive's PCB. It cannot be installed in the laptop, however, it can be installed in most SFF PC cases designed for laptop drives. To connect the drive to the motherboard it will require a special MB USB header adapter, which probably can be found in China.

Will it mount in a slim optical bay like the Ncase M1 chassis has?
