I'm about to flash my new Archgon. Any advice about what BU40N version I should flash to? I'm on 1.02 right now; should I aim for HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin? I'll be flashing with macOS, so any advice for the commands to use would be helpful.

Here's my info:

Drive Information
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.02
Firmware date: 2120-12-01 17:16

I have gone through the terminal process trying to flash the firmware on the Archgon and gotten all the way to the end, with it telling me 100% Operation finished Done Successfully. Yet, when I launch MakeMKV the drive still shows the original firmware and cannot rip UHD discs. I am incredibly puzzled.
I am in the same situation with a BU40N in an Archgon case - my MakeMKV info is as follows:

Drive Information
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: MO1LC2F3441
Firmware date: 2120-12-01 17:16
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I installed Windows 10 LTSC with Boot Camp on my Mac and flashed with the normal methods. Wasn’t as fast as the command line would have been, but I knew it would work. Seems to have.

Of course, you are correct. My apologies for not figuring it out. I do appreciate your help though and thank you for your efforts for the community.

I guarantee that’s the issue. I had errors with the GUI tool because I thought I had to flash to the downgrade enabled DE firmware for my drive, but that was not required. I just flashed directly to the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 with the default enc option in the GUI tool, and it worked. I power cycled just to be sure it was initialized and the software detected LibreDrive immediately. Hope that helps.

Do you need to unzip the firmware pack first? Terminal is giving me an Input file not found error.

I'm attempting to flash a BP60NB10 on MacOS.

When I run '/Applications/MakeMKV.app/Contents/MacOS/sdftool -l' I get the following response:
Found 1 drives(s)
00:
HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP60NB10_1.02_212005070935_SIM03L33E2224
Note, no "/IODBServices/[identifier]" after the 00: or before the drive name.

When I put in a regular BR disk and use MakeMKV, it changes to
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /dev/rdisk16, /dev/rdisk16
HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP60NB10_1.02_212005070935_SIM03L33E2224
But still no "/IODBServices" identifier. I tried using the /dev/rdisk16 as the disk identifier, but it refused to flash because there was a disk in the drive. As soon as I removed the disk, it went back to just being '00:'.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here? It doesn't seem like anyone else has reported having this issue.

I don't have any Macs running Sonoma. I have Macs on Monterey and Ventura (and Mojave). This works for me on both Monterey and Ventura.

I do know that the latest version of Sonoma is 14.3.1. You could try to update your Mac to the latest. Or wait to see if someone else running Sonoma replies.

I suppose it worth verifying that you're running a recent version of MakeMKV, right?

Is your optical drive plugged directly into your Mac?

I'll run the latest OS update and see if it changes anything.

I had to re-download MakeMKV, so it is the latest version of that.

The drive is plugged into a USB hub, which is then plugged into the Mac. It's a Mac mini, and the drive requires two USB ports, so plugging it directly into the Mac isn't really an option.

If necessary, I can connect the drive to a windows machine, but this Mac is what I use 90% of the time.
