Seller ask me payment with Paypal friends and family

Hello everyone, good evening. I'm a new member of the forum and I'm asking this question precisely because I'm new. I apologize in advance because this question is certainly not very pleasant or perhaps not very polite towards the seller and I apologize again.

I need to buy a new burner and I have chosen Asmcom as the seller here on the forum because he is in Europe and ships to Italy, my place of residence. I sent some emails and I was promptly and kindly answered. Therefore, I intend to buy a Pioneer BDR-S13E-X burner.

However, in addition to insisting on having my phone number, saying that it is necessary for the courier, which has never happened to me, the seller asks for a payment through PayPal friends and family which, as we all know, does not offer any kind of guarantee to the buyer. In fact, this payment system is based on the fact that the two people know each other and that therefore the transfer of money takes place between friends. Moreover, the seller requests payment through PayPal in pounds but since I have a euro account I only have those.

The other system that is proposed is through the Zettle platform which, however, does not seem to offer the same guarantees for buyers that PayPal offers for goods and services.

How should I behave? I apologize again for the unpleasant question but having to spend about 400 € I am a bit hesitant considering that one of the main precautions to be taken when buying online from strangers is precisely to use PayPal goods and services.

Thank you very much!

I've never personally purchased anything from Asmcom, but they have a good reputation here on the forum. I have purchased from other sellers here and those transactions have been fine.

Presumably, you've perused their thread here on this forum: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=19387

You can read folks' comments about their service.

Hello,

I bought a drive from Asmcom, paid via PayPal friends and everything went well. Great contact and fast. Later I placed another order with him, which I also paid for via PayPal Friends. This transaction also went to my complete satisfaction.

Regards

Asmcom has an excellent reputation. So this sounds a bit paranoid (excuse me!). However, if you don't feel comfortable with friends and family, you should ask for a new (higher) price that gives you the security of goods and services. He would need to add the fees that are deducted from his seller's price.

It honestly probably for accounting reasons. To make accounting easier.

We can figure out PayPal fees for our own country easy with this.
https://thefeecalculator.com/

But once you add international fees and conversion fees out of our own country we can't predict the fees so friends and family is used.

All my drive sales do use PayPal goods and services well at least if the person chooses PayPal I also have zelle. but I don't ship outside the USA

A problem with any PayPal service is the possibility of "currency conversion" fees. PayPal used to be really good, now it's seemingly skating on the lines of what is legal, is ethical. Since PayPal now sells all your usage data, I'm trying to stop all automatic payments made with PayPal.
