Forum offline?

Post by Leberkasbepi »

Since a few days, this forum is in the evening always very hard to reach or don’t load cause I get a host error.

Is this may an issue from the aws service?

And you can blame a lot of it on spam accounts trying to flood the forum. When there are allegedly 4,000-15,000 people online over the past 5 minutes, you can bet that at least a couple of them are spammers.

Actually, the "official" crawlers are recognized, like Google Bot, Microsoft, etc. The others... not so much.

Things like:
Users browsing this forum: Bing [Bot], Woodstock and 160 guests
Or, more generally:
Registered users: Baidu [Spider], Bing [Bot], Google [Bot]
But, there are currently just under 2500 "other users" tonight. Probably 20 of them are real.

Any update on this issue.

I too have noticed that the forum almost at random crawls and you get timeout and then suddenly is responsive. Is there something that can be done about that. Of course upgrading the hardware etc will make it more snappy but it seems strange that the forum would timeout at random when you use it.

Is there nasty (evil) traffic trying to spam the forum or what is the reason, anyone looked into what the problem is ?

Technically, you can't call ALL of the people "evil". But... Today's current statistics:
In total there are 2012 users online :: 3 registered, 5 hidden and 2004 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 12983 on Mon Jan 12, 2026 12:38 pm
That's just 3 days ago... and the statistics were reset at the new year. It used to say almost 48000 people online at a time, meaning unique visitors by IP.

A couple of times, I reached the Cloudflare connectivity page that shows good connections to Cloudflare, but no connection to the forum server.
