Post by DaveB »

Hi all. I am wondering where I can find chapter lists for DVD/Blu-rays. This is so when I rio some of mt movies that don't have them I can put them in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've used this in the past, but you won't find anything recent as it's just an archive, now.

You can download in .txt & .xml format, suitable for applying w/ MKVToolNix, although I've had trouble w/ SOME .xml versions reporting an invalid format. YMMV

The site posted does have chapter names and times in many cases, and lists the source (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) - I'd imagine that they're taken from those insert cards in some cases. It could help for what you're looking for?

I can't think of a single recent release that has an insert that lists chapter names - perhaps someone else can, but releases that have this would be exceptions. I can't even think of old Blu-rays that have this. This used to be a thing back in the DVD era, but it's not anymore... and any chapter lists from the DVD days likely won't help you anymore, as the lists usually contained names but not times, modern chapter breaks could be different, and even the movie timing could be different with things like studio logos, etc. being changed. I don't buy digital movies, only physical - do digital releases these days have named chapters?

Maybe if you're looking for specific movies, if you write a list, some members may be help able to help you.

Hi all. I am digitizing my collection and I have many DVDs & Blu-rays that need Chapter breaks (Title names). Over 95% of my DVDs have the paper inserts with those names. I have created Text files with the proper format and have the correct timestamps to make this painless and super quick using MKVToolNix program. Now about 1/2 of my Blu-rays have each Chapter break in the Menu (usually under Scene Selection) and very few on UHD bothered with them.

I am trying to see if members that have large collections (for I assume they have all formats) and are willing to exchange information. I know this seems like a futile effort, but I do think those are partially vital for information, but at least it doesn't affect movie play or anything what-so-ever.

Just so some people that never did this before, those text files barely take up space. In fact, you can just use them and delete them, once you add it to the movie file. I keep mine for if I ever had to do it again.....I can use it right away. I even edited many Blu-ray and UHD movies to match the DVD version (if they shortened the chapters). It's a personal call to what you want/like, but....in some cases combining the DVD & blu-ray chapters make sense as well.

So any takers?? Just give me a message and we can collaborate on this. Sorry for being long winded.
