Portable, USB-powered drives from any manufacturer seem to have an increased potential for scratching discs. I've personally had discs scratched by two Pioneer portable drives (BDR-UD04 and BDR-XS07U). I've known other folks to have negative experiences with LG BU40N/BP50NB40 and Pioneer XD07/XD08 drives.

If you keep your drives on a stable, flat, anti-slip surface and avoid ripping discs with stickers or visible warping you should be fine with any LibreDrive compatible drive.

Question? Are these pioneers these that rip hard to rip disks? I could use backup either way just curious. Thanks!

Yes. The only thing that you need to know that rip speed for all Pioneers and UHD discs is limited to 4x speed. But better slower and successful than a failed rip with LG type drives.
