Hi - sorry to hijack.
I have the exact same drive:
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MOEPAIH1509
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 61
Can I Confirm the link to the update tool works? Just because BU40N revision 1.05 wasnt specifically listed.
Cheers

After doing this, I was still unable to rip newer UHD releases (4K James Cameron - Aliens, The Abyss, and True Lies all unreadable). I then cross-flashed to HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP60NB10 VERSION 1.0 - (libre-drive enabled). It is now reading the Cameron 4Ks, Aliens and Abyss have now ripped 4K Dolby-vision MKVs. True Lies is just about complete.

hi, I flashed the DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin and i have the same issues, I can't read any 4kuhd, make mkv the other files but has problems with the streams.
Then i crossflashed to the DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK.bin, not better. Now makemkv had the most problems, can't read anything.
Then I flashed back to DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin, the flashertool flashed, but the drive didn't accepted that.
The drive is alsways the BP60 with 1.00
How can i flashe it back to a BU40Drive?

Try recovery mode.
In the first selection menu choose the BP60 1.00 and in the second the BU40N 1.03MK.
Or try to flash to BP60 1.02MK and after this to BU40N 1.03MK.

Nothing really helps,
I can't reflash the drive anymore. At least it still reads regular Blu-rays, so it's not completely dead yet.
Is it possible that the drive is having problems because it's not getting enough power via USB?
Then regular Blu-rays would probably have the same problems, right?
I'm at a loss, I'll probably have to return it, it's only 3 days old.
Unfortunately, you can't tell from the outside which drive you're getting.
